Landslide Susceptibility Studies at Chalakudy River Basin
摘要
Landslide is a geologic process called “mass wasting,” in which by the downward movement of material happens under the force of gravity. Landslides pose a particularly significant threat as natural disasters in Kerala. This paper aims a comprehensive landslide susceptibility study at Chalakudy River Basin. The study area is highly prone to landslide and it is worst affected due to its topography and climatic conditions. Analysis of study area by the integration of GIS ensures an accuracy and reliability of the susceptibility assessment. The slopes and marginal areas of the regions, which are more susceptible to landslides were identified using GIS. Furthermore, a predictive model capable of delineating areas at higher risk of landslides within the study area is formed by applying statistical modeling that assess the relationship between historical landslide occurrences and various influencing parameters. This paper provides model for analyzing landslide susceptibility at Chalakudy river basin using GIS.
