Enhancing Seismic Performance of Moment-Resisting Frames Using Braced Corrugated Shear Panel

Braced ductile shear panels provide an effective solution to withstand seismic forces. It combines the strengths of thin shear panels and bracing systems to enhance a structure’s ability to withstand seismic forces. This study investigates the seismic performance enhancement of braced ductile shear panels through the integration of corrugations. The study evaluates the impact of corrugations on key performance parameters, including maximum lateral displacement, load resisting capacity, energy dissipation capacity, and ductility ratio. The analysis is conducted using ANSYS software. Results indicated a significant increase in maximum lateral displacement, load resisting capacity and enhancement in energy dissipation capacity with the introduction of corrugations into flat plate shear panel. Additionally, the influence of corrugation orientation angles on load resistance, energy dissipation, and ductility is examined revealing that 90° orientation showed better seismic performance than 0 and 45° orientations.
