Evaluation of Rheological Characteristics of Pyro-Oil Modified Reclaimed Asphalt Binders Using Activation Energy Approach

The current study centers on computing the Activation Energy (AE) of fresh and aged binders. The base binder is blended with various proportions of binder reclaimed from old asphalt pavement, alongwith the addition of Pyro-Oil. The analysis of the activation energy results is based on the physical state of the blends and is subject to the source and content of the recovered binder. The AE exhibited an increase when assessing the physical states of the bitumen blend at a high phase angle across the temperature range tested, in contrast to the base binder. Nonetheless, the AE decreased when analyzing blend samples with a lower phase angle. For a better understanding of the interpretation, the results of AE are divided into three parts: liquid state, semiliquid state, and solid state based on the blend physical state as a function of the temperature. The results of AE were analyzed based upon the results of complex viscosity.
