The estimation of human exposure to air pollution faces methodological challenges, often resulting in underestimations at urban and regional scales. This study addresses this gap by developing a framework for regional exposure estimates that integrates population activity and demonstrating its impact on exposure assessments for NO2 and PM2.5 in Greece and the EU28 countries. Our findings suggest that current exposure estimates in Europe are likely to be underestimated, emphasizing the need for high-resolution concentrations and consideration of population activity in exposure assessments.
