Downscaling Effect of Dry and Wet Deposition for Nitrogen and Sulphur Compounds in Comprising CMAQ and EMEP Models Over the Urban Area

The atmospheric pollution has a profound effect on human health and the quality of life. Different processes contribute to the surface concentrations and in particular the dry and wet depositions. Two of the basic pollutants are Nitrogen and Sulfur compounds. We focus our work on the computer modeling of the dry and wet depositions over the urban area of Sofia city–the capital of Bulgaria and comparison with the EMEP-MSC-W model. We performed the simulations with the US EPA Models-3 System for the period 2008–2014. The meteorological background is taken from the NCEP Global Analysis Data with 1° × 1°resolution. We use the nesting capability of the models to study the downscaling effects on dry and wet depositions for the Nitrogen and Sulphur compounds.
