An Application for Scoliosis Screening and Follow-Up: A First Proposal
摘要
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a spinal deformity that tends to get worse as children grow and affects overall health. Generally, scoliosis is diagnosed by measuring the Cobb angle on radiographs, which represents the gold standard for scoliosis grade quantification. More recently, smartphone applications have been developed to replace the traditional methods of scoliosis management and to be included in clinical practice ensuring good accuracy. Using a new methodology proposed by us, we evaluated currently available applications based on their main technological and functional characteristics. However current applications, for some aspects, show limitations. I therefore aim to develop a new application for remote screening and monitoring of scoliosis to achieve better management of scoliotic curvature and to simplify the doctor’s workload. The application will be developed by taking ideal images of the patient’s back and will subsequently be validated on a larger sample.
