Brazilian Political Study with Topics Analysis and Complex Networks
摘要
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is a complex system composed of conflicting interests, ideological points of view, and social interactions between deputies. The present work expands the social analysis of this system, usually analyzed with complex networks, to also consider the ideological aspect of the house by conducting a topic analysis to generate thematic complex networks that are analyzed to uncover how the theme of a voting proposition affects the behavior of the deputies. We show that the parties do not maximize modularity inside the thematic networks, and therefore the social aspect of the network presents a more prominent group structure. Also, we show that the topic being voted on highly influences how parties from the same political spectrum behave and that a set of 10 topics seems to indicate the overall themes that are voted on in this House.
