Biogas Production Potential at a Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Case of the Tamuda-Bay WWTP

摘要

Wastewater treatment plants can increase biogas yield, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and boost overall operational efficiency by optimizing these parameters. In this paper we investigate the generation of biogas in wastewater treatment facilities, with particular attention paid to digester parameter optimization, including temperature, pH, volatile solids concentration, and biogas yield. The goal of the research is to shed light on the complex interactions between digester parameters and biogas output through thorough analysis and experimentation. Understanding and adjusting digester parameters is crucial for optimizing biogas production in wastewater treatment operations. An essential function of wastewater treatment plants’ anaerobic digestion procedures is the conversion of organic matter into biogas, which is mainly made up of carbon dioxide and methane. The study examines how pH levels affect microbial activity and the production of biogas, with a focus on keeping ideal circumstances between 6.5 and 8.0. Furthermore, temperature regulation is examined, emphasizing the importance of mesophilic conditions (about 35–40 ℃) for improving digester efficiency. Effective waste management techniques are crucial, as the study evaluates the effect of feedstock's volatile solids content on the efficiency of biogas generation.
