Enhancement of a THz Patch Antenna Performance Using Metamaterials for Biomedical Applications
摘要
This paper explores the improvement of THz patch antenna performance through the application of Metamaterials (MTM).The suggested antenna is a rectangular patch with an incomplete ground plane intended for biomedical applications. The antenna is configured for operation at a frequency of 4.8 THz using the FR4 substrate characterized by dielectric of 4.3, a loss tangent (tan δ) of 0.02 and thickness of 2 µm. The MTM is a 2 × 3 unit cells positioned on a substrate with a thickness of 2µ m. The MTM was placed under the antenna at a distance G of 5.7 µm. The introduction of the MTM enhanced clearly the antenna performances. As result, the reflection coefficient was enhanced from −27.23 dB to −50.04 dB and the gain also was increased from 2.80 dB to 4.11 dB. Which render the proposed antenna suitable for various biomedical applications.
