The Impact of Non-customer Variables on Electricity and Water Consumption: An Evidence from UAE

There is a lack of available research regarding the combined effects of three non-customer variables which are the age of the building, the type of the building, and the number of occupants in the UAE. Although there are some studies conducted in Europe which suggest that these non-customer variables are statistically important determinants of energy usage. Therefore, this study intends to find the relationship between these noncustomer variables on both electricity and water usage in the UAE, with a primary geographic cluster focus on the emirate of Dubai. The non-customer variables including the age of the building, the type of the building, the number of occupants, and the number of rooms in the building, all have a significant impact on both electricity and water consumption. Therefore, the assumption that the customer is primarily responsible for both electricity and water consumption is proven to be incorrect according to the results of this study.
