Expert System for ISO 14649 Data Interface Model Interpretation

The ISO 14649 data interface model is one of the potential models that can meet the expectations of the future manufacturing system. It has been successfully implemented on CAD/CAM systems. However, its implementation in CNC is still a bottleneck. Various implementation strategies have been developed, but the best still has to come. In this research, a new strategy has been designed to integrate expert systems and virtual component technologies. The aim of the developed system is to enable decision-making abilities in the CNC system, at present, it has been implemented for the ISO 14649 data interface model interpretation. This strategy equips the CNC system to self-generate the machine-executable tool paths from ISO 14649 design and manufacturing data. System development, algorithm designs, system interface, and simulation validation are presented in this research. The system will be enhanced shortly with an expert machine motion control model to execute the generated tool paths on a CNC machine.
