摘要

Shifting cultivation (also known as swidden or slash-and-burnagriculture) has been conducted by numerous rural societies across the moist tropics supporting the livelihoodsand food security options of millions of people globally. As part of a landscape mosaic with sufficiently long fallowperiods, the practice remains sustainable and can contribute to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem serviceprovision through retaining a complex landscape mosaic.
