The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in orthopedics will revolutionize patient care and surgical procedures. AI, empowered by machine learning and deep learning algorithms, has a pivotal role in diagnostic support, surgical planning, intra-operative navigation, and post-operative monitoring. Various systems, such as the Da Vinci Surgical System® for laparoscopic surgery, and ROSA® and Mako® systems for orthopedic procedures enhance precision and safety. However, the introduction of robotics in orthopedics presents challenges, encompassing high costs, prolonged operative times, and the need for substantial operating room space. The convergence of AI and robotics transcends precision; it increases autonomy, adaptability, and self-learning capabilities in surgical procedures. AI technologies within robotic systems encompass pattern recognition, deep learning, and computer vision solutions, enabling these systems to adapt in real time, monitor changes, and even respond to emergencies. This transformation amplifies surgical precision and augments patient safety. AI-driven robotics in orthopedics find various practical applications: streamlining surgical processes, enhancing efficiency, and providing real-time decision support. They also facilitate personalization, adaptability, and time-saving in the operating room. Nevertheless, challenges tied to the cost of adoption, interoperability, data privacy, and ethical considerations must be addressed. In conclusion, the integration of AI and robotics in orthopedics offers substantial promise in improving patient care, surgical outcomes, and operational efficiency. While obstacles must be overcome, the advantages fuel innovation and adoption within the healthcare sector.
