Machine for Grinding the Facet of Forming Punches

The article describes a three-axis single-purpose machine assembled on the basis of the customer’s requirements for adjusting the facet of forming punches of different diameters, which are part of presses for the production of aluminum can blanks. The machine is built and developed from the BRV platform [4], as well as the control system, together with the programming environment, including the drive platform, were chosen due to experience and positive feedback. The machine was supplemented, among other things, with a unique program and a graphical user interface due to the required operation of the machine. The main requirements were to adjust the facet so that it was concentric with the main diameter of the cylindrical body of the forming punch, and that it was as circular as possible. Because the non-concentricity and non-circularity of the unprocessed punches then results in an uneven distribution of aluminum on the walls of the semi-finished product. Furthermore, it was necessary to ensure sufficient roughness of the machined surface. The required accuracy was set to hundredths of mm. The assembled machine has already been successfully implemented by the customer in the maintenance and modification processes of forming presses.
