Unitary Synthesis Method of Basic Mechanisms with Translating Driven Element

Several mechanism types used in technical applications transform the rotation motion of the drive element into translation motion of the driven element with or without a prescribed motion curve. The aim of this study is to compare the basic mechanisms regarding the linear stroke of the driven element and longitudinal whole size of the mechanism. The paper shows the dimensional optimization of the basic mechanisms with prismatic joint sized in frame considering a normalized crank or radius length. Also, to avoid the singularities on the return points of the linear stroke the maximum pressure angle was limited. The comparison between the considered basic mechanisms used as parameter the ratio between the linear stroke of the driven element and the longitudinal whole mechanism size.
