Analysing Trends and Impacts: A Bibliometric Study of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Research

Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies have become disruptive forces with significant impacts across various sectors. This bibliometric study investigates the trends and impacts of research in these areas over a specified period. Through an in-depth analysis of scholarly publications, we highlight the evolution of research themes, key authors, leading journals, and the geographical spread of contributions. A total of 332 documents, all categorized under ABDC, have been extracted from the Scopus database and analyzed. Additionally, we explore citation patterns and the impact of seminal works, revealing the intellectual lineage and influence within the research community. By mapping citation networks, we identify seminal contributions and key research milestones shaping the field. This bibliometric analysis extensively summarises research trends and impacts in blockchain and cryptocurrency, providing essential insights for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers. By synthesizing collective knowledge and mapping the intellectual landscape, this study enhances understanding of the dynamics driving innovation and transformation in the digital economy. Through citing, it is possible to assess both classical and the most topical influential sources and outline the myriad social and technological impacts that stem from blockchain research. Thus, the present chapter may be considered one of the most valuable in terms of the perspectives it outlines within the development of the discipline, which would provide researchers with directions for future orientations of research studies and policy-making.
