The adaptation of microorganisms to extreme environmental conditions and their ability to thrive in harsh environments provide the idea of harnessing their potential for numerous applications. Their extraordinary genetic make-up and ability to thrive in harsh conditions become testimony to their utilization in differently polluted soil. Their adaptations are crucial in addressing soil pollution, as they are equipped with specialized metabolic pathways and enzymes that can degrade pollutants and detoxify soil, offering a cost-effective solution. The chapter explores the implications of microbial adaptation, implying that such microbial strains can be further enhanced for pollutant-degrading abilities to targeted and efficient remediation strategies for soil pollution.
