摘要

There have been many studies on Madinah city of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, the Prophetic actions in Madinah, particularly his initiative to form the Madinah Pact, have not been scholarly analysed so far in a way to find out its relationship with the Qur’anic principles on inclusiveness and peaceful co-existence. This chapter attempts to examine the link between the sacred texts, namely the Qur’anic verses on inclusiveness and its Prophetic interpretation in the context of Madinah in the seventh century AD. This study argues that some articles in the Madinah Charter unequivocally guarantee societal values such as freedom of faith, peaceful co-existence, and social integrity. This chapter further analyses the importance of those values in contemporary society with the aim of fostering peaceful co-existence and social integrity between different ethno-religious communities. To carry out this task, this study has applied descriptive, analytical, and comparative approaches.
