The Integration of Internet of Things in Agriculture Supply Chain Management

The surging global demand for food, coupled with an imperative for enhanced agricultural productivity and sustainability, has propelled the need for the intensification and industrialization of the agricultural sector. In this context, the Internet of Things (IoT) emerges as a transformative force, offering multifaceted solutions for the modernization of agriculture. This paper explores the pivotal role of IoT in reshaping agricultural practices, focusing on production and operational performance management within agricultural entities. The landscape is witnessing a rapid influx of IoT products, as scientific groups, research institutes, and industries strive to meet the demands of stakeholders in the agricultural sector. This study highlights into the specific case of Morocco, where agriculture is a linchpin of the national economy. As a major producer and exporter of various commodities, Morocco’s agricultural sector is poised for a technological leap forward through the integration of IoT. The paper employs three primary management tools—Gemba walk, SWOT analysis, and the Risk Matrix—to comprehensively explore the landscape of IoT in the Agriculture Supply Chain based on the perspectives of 35 experts in the agriculture field. The ensuing discussion unfolds in three sections, each contributing to a nuanced understanding of IoT integration: introducing fundamental concepts, outlining the employed methodology, and scrutinizing current findings. The exploration underscores the transformative potential of IoT in agriculture, signifying a resilient and technologically advanced future for Morocco’s agricultural landscape.
