Nasal reconstruction may seem like a fairly modern procedure because of its association with celebrities, but, in fact, rhinoplasty has a very rich history. The origins of rhinoplasty can be traced back as far as ancient Egypt, where criminals were sometimes punished by having their noses cut off. Some of the earliest recorded surgical techniques for reconstructing the nose date back to the Roman Empire, as described in Aulus Cornelius Celsus’ De Medicina. In India, the physician Sushruta described a plastic surgical operation for reconstructing a nose destroyed by rhinectomy in the sixth century bce. The history of rhinoplasty continued to evolve and develop over time, with notable advancements and contributions from various cultures and individuals throughout history. Today, rhinoplasty is a common plastic surgery procedure with a range of techniques and approaches available to surgeons [1].
