Endoscopic Approaches to Maxillary Sinus
摘要
Maxillary sinus was first described by Nathaniel Highmore (1613–1685), a British physician and anatomist [1]. Maxillary sinuses are embryologically the first to develop, starting at around tenth week, and are almost always present at the time of birth [2]. The growth patterns of the maxillary sinus indeed undergo significant changes during childhood and adolescence. The most extensive growth of the maxillary sinus occurs until the end of the eighth year. By the age of 16, the maxillary sinus achieves its maximum values for all its diameters and its volume [3]. At maturity, the typical volume of a fully developed maxillary sinus ranges from 15 to 20 ml on average [3].
