摘要

Rhinitis is a widespread condition that is still an ill-defined disease that includes controversial entities and few proven facts. The term “rhinopathy” is a more correct term than rhinitis since the common symptoms of rhinitis may exist in the absence of actual inflammation. The united airway concept is based upon the strong association between allergic rhinitis and asthma. Rhinitis is usually, and broadly, classified into infectious and non-infectious categories. The infectious category is the better-defined type. It includes acute viral rhinitis as well as several specific diseases like scleroma and rhinosporidiosis. Non-infectious rhinitis may be allergic or non-allergic. Non-allergic rhinitis includes several categories: vasomotor, occupational, hormonal, drug-induced, and some other less common types such as primary atrophic rhinitis (Ozena). Allergic rhinitis may be over-diagnosed and/or under-treated, and it may considerably downgrade quality of life. Most types of rhinitis share several treatment options. However, some types require specific therapies. Treatment of allergic rhinitis includes allergen avoidance (reducing exposure to relevant allergens such as dander, dust mite, and pollen), pharmacotherapy, and immunotherapy hinitis is a prevalent.
