Presurgical Gastrointestinal Evaluation in Bariatric Surgery
摘要
Obesity has become a major public health concern worldwide. Over 150 comorbidities and cancer are directly related to obesity. All patients undergoing obesity management should undergo a thorough screening and optimization of obesity-related co-morbidities prior to any intervention. Routine endoscopy may play a role in particular therapies offered. Patients should undergo specific testing when significant gastrointestinal symptoms are present. Identifying and potentially resolving conditions found on preoperative testing may lead to less perioperative morbidity.
