Pharmacologic Therapy of Obesity
摘要
The chronic nature of obesity necessitates targeting not only the primary outcome of improved weight and body composition but also the maintenance of these improvements and the prevention of weight regain. The use of pharmacotherapy should be based on the scientific evidence available, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance, current standards of care, and the clinical judgement of the practicing physician. Currently, there are eight drugs approved by the FDA for the treatment of obesity, of which seven are commonly used. To see maximal results, they should be combined with dietary change, adequate activity, behavior modification, accountability, and adequate restorative sleep.
