Despite substantial clinical and policy efforts, the prevalence of obesity and obesity-related health care expenditures continue to grow. Unfortunately, lifestyle interventions are often inadequate, and surgery, while often effective, carries strict eligibility requirements, a high cost, and a notable risk of complications. Over the past decade, there has been a substantial effort to employ endoscopic interventions for the management of obesity. These techniques boast minimally invasive, cost-effective, and reversible options for patients. While a growing number of these therapies have already gained FDA approval, this chapter focuses on the upcoming generation of endoscopic bariatric devices, currently in various stages of development and clinical trials.
