摘要

Bariatric surgery has many benefits; however, some patients may experience complications or weight regain, in which case endoscopic procedures may be utilized to manage or correct these complications. Both procedures have nutrition implications in the pre- and post-procedure time periods. Nutrition education and counseling by a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) with experience in this population are key components to success with both procedures. Prior to the procedure, patients should be screened for nutrient deficiencies and begin diet modifications. Post-procedure, diet advancement should be slow and tolerance closely monitored. Nutrition complications can include dehydration, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dumping syndrome, malnutrition, and macro- and micronutrient deficiencies. Close follow-up and monitoring by the interdisciplinary team can ensure success and avoid such complications.
