This essay aims to present an interpretation of the following question: should elements that are part of ethnocultural identities be admitted only if they do not violate human rights? In order to analyse this matter, this text embraces the idea that human rights (considered as normative expectations of legal inclusion of every human being in society) have a historically relative character whose effectiveness not only can favour the existence of cultural heterogeneity but can also bring limitations to pluralism. This essay recognizes cultural justice as a specific dimension of justice and aims to present an interpretative path that can be taken in the activity of defining the limits of multiculturalism and in the task of giving human rights a multicultural character. All this considering basic connections between the concept of dignity and the concept human rights, and pointing that cultural pluralism can cause disagreements about the importance and the meaning of human rights.
