Assessment of Anticandidal Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Using Acalypha indica Leaf Extract for the Treatment of Systemic Invasive Candidiasis

Owing to its economical and environmentally beneficial characteristics, plant-mediated synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) has been gaining traction. Aqueous leaf extract from Acalypha indica was used in this current evaluation to synthesize silver nanoparticles (Ag). The biosynthesized Ag NPs were analyzed by UV-VIS spectroscopy, which revealed the surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) at 400 nm. Further testing was done against Candida albicans to determine the anticandidal activity of AgNPs made using A. indica leaf extracts in aqueous form. An effective positive control was the medication fluconazole. As demonstrated by the data, the extracts made with silver nanoparticles reduced the growth of bacteria. Zones of inhibition (12 mm) were found by the disc diffusion method against Candida albicans, according to statistical calculations carried out using the Tukey test. It was demonstrated that fluconazole and the aqueous extracts of Acalypha indica leaves containing silver nanoparticles were equivalent in their ability to inhibit fungal growth.
