Optical and Chemical Activities of Barium Chloride-Doped L-Alanine Crystals

Barium chloride-doped L-alanine crystals were generated as single crystals by means of the solution approach with a slow evaporation method. In order to analyze the crystal structure, the produced crystals were described using powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Kurtz-Perry powder test was used to validate the generated crystal’s nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics. Z-Scan studies were used to evaluate the third-order nonlinear optical parameters, such as the absorption coefficient, refractive index, and third-order susceptibility. The sample’s elemental composition is examined using the Energy Dispersive Analysis by X-rays (EDAX) method. This report discusses the optical and chemical investigations of L-alanine crystals doped with barium chloride. Analyses were conducted on the samples’ laser damage threshold (LDT) using a Nd:YAG laser with an 18 ns pulse width and a wavelength of 1064 nm. The samples were found to have laser damage threshold values greater than that of undoped L-alanine crystal (0.31 GW/cm2). It is discovered that the LDT values of the LABC1, LABC3, and LABC5 crystals are greater than those of the KDP crystal (0.2 GW/cm2).
