Balance Laws in Continuum Mechanics

In this chapter, we will present the general laws that any continuous body must obey: conservation of mass, balance of momentum, and balance of angular momentum. Additionally, by using the principle of virtual work, we can calculate the work done by internal forces. Using the transport theorem, we will present the general mathematical structure of the balance laws in both the Eulerian and Lagrangian formulations. In the case of thermomechanical systems, the balance of energy is added to the aforementioned laws.
