Designing and Deploying Mobile Health Interventions

This chapter focuses on the exciting field of mobile devices in healthcare. We describe the variety of mobile devices used in healthcare and discuss considerations researchers, designers, software developers, and informaticians need to consider when designing and deploying these devices in the healthcare environment. We examine the use of mobile devices for healthcare providers and consumers. From a largely historical perspective, from standalone devices to smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices. Lastly, we discuss things to consider when designing mHealth interventions and studying the use of mobile devices in the healthcare environment.
