Introduction

The traditional hospital model and the way that healthcare systems work is rife with problematic legacy issues. Hospitals as institutions frequently fail to meet current challenges, societal and economic pressures, and ultimately let patients and healthcare professionals down. Arguably, many of the wicked problems that are endemic to health services can be tackled through ‘clinical-digital transformation’. This book looks at the ways in which medicine can be done differently; finding pockets of the future and supporting evidence in the present, to explore how we can use technology to better serve society’s pressing needs.
