摘要

Silicon (Si) has garnered increasing interest in agriculture due to its beneficial impacts on crop development. This study reviews the influence of Si on flowering and fruit quality in various plants, including cotton, tomato, sunflower, and sorghum. Si plays a critical role in floral development, influencing the formation and morphology of pollen grains and contributing to fertility and crop yield. Furthermore, the application of Si during the reproductive period has been shown to significantly enhance both yield and fruit quality. The research highlights Si’s positive impact on flower quality, resistance against biotic and abiotic stresses, and stimulation of antioxidant and metabolic mechanisms. Another observed benefit is mineral biofortification, with Si application resulting in a substantial increase in essential elements in fruits, such as iron, zinc, and selenium, thereby helping to meet the nutritional needs of the population. These findings underscore the importance of Si in optimizing agricultural production and promoting food security, providing valuable insights for sustainable agricultural practices and biofortification strategies. This study emphasizes the potential of Si as a crucial tool for enhancing crop productivity and quality in the face of global environmental and nutritional challenges.
