Synthesis of Novel Polyaniline-Nanosphere Composite for the Detection of Ammonia in Poised Meat

Currently, polyaniline-based materials have been widely used as sensor for ammonia (NH3) gas detection applications since they have fantastic and tunable properties. However, still their large-scale applications are being limited due to the poor electrochemical performance and low stability. Thus, in this work, a novel polyaniline (PANI)-nanosphere composite electrochemical ammonia (NH3) gas sensor having good cyclic stability requirements, tunable chemical and physical properties, nanoparticles size and zeta potential (499.2 nm and -4.23, respectively), and good TEM nanosized (50 nm) and sensing ability was being synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline with Azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) polymerization initiator in p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) at room temperature. It was characterized using DLS (size and zeta potential), UV-Vis, TGA, SEM, TEM XRD, FTIR, and CV techniques. Extremely low (0.05 ppm) to 1000 ppm detection of ammonia (NH3) gas was observed at 25°C operation condition. The anodic peak current value for ammonium ion detection in NH4Cl (red color curve) that is 6.631E−4A at 1.496mV and for ammonium ion detection in poised meat (black color curve) that is 6.585E−4 A at 1.495 mV have been recorded. The sensor showed good stability and reproducibility and was found to be good applicable and promising material for the detection of NH3 in meat sample.
