Prognosis for the Just System (2025–2050)

  • John Morrison

摘要

The final chapter takes a short-term (2025–2030), medium-term (2030–2040), and long-term (2040–2050) view of the Just Transition. Between now and 2030, there are likely to be several pinch points and policy conflicts as the social implications of climate transition become more apparent worldwide. Tough political and policy choices will need to be made if the system is to be geared sufficiently by 2030 to deliver on Net Zero commitments before 2050. During the medium term, the social implications of climate action need to be included in the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) scenarios and possible outcomes. The decade 2030–2040 will require sustained climate action in the face of many social challenges and will determine whether humanity can ever confront climate change successfully. The long term (2040–2050) will be to know at first hand the consequences of the legacy we have left for generations that are still young or yet to be born.
