Just Food Systems

A bigger challenge than even the energy transition will be the transition in agriculture. Farmers the world over are already dealing with the effects of climate change, and so the Just Transition in agriculture must be about mitigation, adaptation, and resilience all at once. Given that transitions in agriculture are about biodiversity, soils, water, as well as climate, models of regenerative agriculture need to be the starting point. But factoring in food systems is also essential, and there is a human dimension to both how food is produced and how it is consumed that need to be managed. Recent farmer protests in India and in Europe show how squeezed many farmers feel at present, and so any transitions need to be based on an understanding of Just Food Systems.
