Conversational Maxims in the Classroom: A Pragmatic Analysis

  • Kingsley Asante

摘要

This chapter explores the application of Grice's Cooperative Principle in classroom interactions. The research focuses on how students and teachers in a business class violate or flout Grice’s conversational maxims (quantity, quality, relevance, and manner), affecting communication effectiveness. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing interactions to observe the impacts of these violations and floutings on the learning process. This chapter provides valuable insights into the pragmatic aspects of language use in educational settings.
