Bilingualism and Policy in the UAE: A Case Study

This chapter examines bilingual education policies in the UAE, focusing on the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It explores the drives behind the introduction of bilingual education, the implementation of the biliteracy policy, and its impact on the education system. The study also considers teachers’ perspectives on the policy's benefits and drawbacks. Through a qualitative research approach, the chapter delves into the dynamics between English and Arabic in the UAE's educational system, highlighting the role of bilingualism in a multicultural society and its implications for global competitiveness and cultural identity. The research emphasises the need for further investigation into bilingual education policies to align with the UAE's educational vision.
