Language Policy from Theory to Practice in the UAE

This chapter examines the evolving language policies in the United Arab Emirates, particularly focusing on the tension between the dominance of English and the preservation of Arabic as the national language. It discusses the various initiatives and decrees from the UAE Ministry of Education aimed at enhancing Arabic language education while fostering bilingualism. The chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of language policies from 2003 to 2022, exploring their impact on identity, culture, and education. It also highlights the challenges and opportunities in implementing these policies within the context of the UAE's diverse and globalized environment.
