Gender violence (GV) encompasses a variety of acts, often perpetrated against women, including physical, psychological, and sexual violence. While GV can result in criminal proceedings against the perpetrator, civil litigation can also be pursued to establish the presence of psychological injury and offer an opinion on the likelihood that it is associated with the alleged abuse. Mental health practitioners are retained to complete such psychological evaluations with victims to identify what psychological injury, if any, is present. The evaluation procedures utilized in such cases are similar to other types of personal injury forensic psychological evaluations; in cases of GV, the focus of the evaluation is to obtain extensive information regarding the abuse, the presence of psychological injury, and accompanying impairments. In such instances, it is recommended to employ psychological testing, including trauma inventories. This chapter concludes by exploring three GV civil litigation case examples (i.e., intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and sexual discrimination).

摘要
