Traditionally, whole body fetal radiography (known as skeletal surveys or ‘babygrams’) were the cornerstone of postmortem imaging, primarily used for detecting inheritable bone diseases [1] and estimating the gestational age of the fetus. More recently, large cohort studies have evaluated the effectiveness of other modalities for postmortem imaging such as CT (PMCT) [2, 3] and postmortem MRI (PMMR/PMMRI) [4–6] for perinatal death investigation. These studies have demonstrated that PMMRI, in particular, shows a high concordance rate with traditional autopsies, achieving up to 90% accuracy [5]. Nevertheless, despite the impressive diagnostic capabilities, their widespread adoption is hindered by high costs and limited accessibility.
