The Emerging Risk vs Benefit of “Artificial Intelligence”: A Youth Perspective [1]

In general, and especially from a medical perspective, the outcome of humanity’s encounter with AI is much more likely to be very positive rather than very negative. In fact, the risks worth considering are more the risks of what could happen if AI goes right, rather than if AI goes wrong. That could include our embarrassment about how much AI improves medicine, and how quickly that improvement occurs. We cite 31 example articles showing that there is already ample evidence for those positive effects. For instance, we predict that the organ shortage will be eliminated in the next decades due to AI-enhanced advances in xenotransplantation, stem cell generated organs, and bioartificial organs. We also discuss the “Everything” Approach which will create space for AI, quantum computing, and medicine to come together to offer the best treatment options for patients.
