Ubuntu, Inequality and Sustainable Development: Emerging Issues
摘要
In this closing chapter, I seek to highlight some key emerging issues from the essays in this handbook. I draw attention to the general acceptance of the extant definitions of Ubuntu among most of the contributors. I acknowledge that although the different contributors have come up with nuanced and creative applications of Ubuntu, they generally uphold the existing approaches to the concept. I proceed to highlight how the contributors theorized the role of Ubuntu in tackling inequality. I also analyse contributions that demonstrate the application of Ubuntu, as well as those that approach Ubuntu as a global resource that can be utilized to overcome inequality and promote sustainable development. I proceed to reflect on those who critique Ubuntu, drawing attention to what they regard as inherent challenges that vitiate its effectiveness and potential to overcome various expressions of inequalities. I then turn to an overview of potential areas for further research in relation to Ubuntu as a potent and dynamic resource.
