ITTO’s Cooperation on Sustaining Mangrove Ecosystems
摘要
Mangrove ecosystem is a key contributor to the net-zero carbon emission target the international community is set to achieve by 2050. Mangrove ecosystems and their valuable contributions to sustainable forest management in the tropics, climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and enhancement of livelihoods will be a very important area of work for ITTO in the coming years. To develop enabling conditions for sustainable mangrove management, coherent actions at the local, national levels, including research into the causes of depletion and possible solutions, and resource mobilization for large-scale ameliorative action through partnerships and international cooperation need to be in place. ITTO has been working in the area of enhancing mangrove ecosystem development through project implementation since the early years of the organization in the 90 s in three regions: Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia-Pacific, as well as at the global level.
