Social Justice and School Psychology

Social justice is presented as a concept that can connect school psychologists from across the globe. In this chapter, we first present several frameworks for viewing social justice, including an overview of research specifically focused on social justice and school psychology. We then discuss three key thematic areas—multiculturalism, child rights, and ethics—that work together to guide practices that reflect social justice. Advocacy is a central concept, with participatory approaches particularly instructive. Finally, we provide two fictitious case studies to highlight ways in which school psychologists can utilize these ideas to be agents of social justice.
