Integrating Transnational Competencies for Supervision: Educating for a Global Society

We all aspire to become responsive citizens of the world. With increased immigration and migration and the coming of age of first, second, and third generations of immigrants, what formerly were local communities have become global centers. Beyond understanding the importance of cultural diversity and multiculturalism and in order to effectively meet the needs of the children and youth we provide services for, it is critical we develop a transnational perspective. This chapter focuses on those transnational competencies integrated into responsive transnational supervision. Supervision is a critical component to facilitate the integration of clinical skills in training and in the development of the current and next generation of school psychologists. Co-centric values, intersectionality as it reflects globalization, and ethical issues in providing responsive supervision and psychological services are discussed as critical issues.
