This chapter presents a detailed and nuanced exploration of the spectrum of concepts within Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing the distinctions and relationships between AI, machine learning, Shallow Learning (SL), and Deep Learning (DL). It commences by clarifying the relationships between AI and its foundational concepts, paving the way for a deeper understanding of the discipline. Central to the chapter are comparative analyses distinguishing between AI and Machine Learning (ML), machine learning and DL, as well as Deep Learning and Neural Networks (NN). Additionally, it differentiates between AI and NN, shedding light on these often-confused terms. The chapter also introduces the basic definitions and concepts of machine learning, laying a foundation for readers. Further, the chapter explores SL techniques, including Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Support Vector Machines (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), and Naïve Bayes.
