Modeled Maatic Counter Narrative Communication Theory: Examining the Erasure of African American Women in Audio

  • Carolyn Malachi

摘要

Rooted in Social Learning Theory, the Theory of Tone, Maatic Communication Theory, and the Ubuntu world view, this chapter discusses the Modeled Maatic Counter Narrative Communication Theory which draws strength from the systematic work of Black women audio producer-engineer-educators and proposes a two-stage framework to guide and inform future research so that it can improve professional practices aimed at addressing socioeconomic imbalances, such as the stalled growth of women in audio production and engineering careers. First, counter-narrative testimony from and about the success of Black women audio producer-engineer-educators must be woven into future research. Then, that mixed-method research must be positioned in the public sphere as a multimedia product rather than as a text-based document haphazardly flung throughout the echo chambers of the academy or the music industry.
