This chapter uses a theoretical background to clarify the concept of biomimicry and distinguish it from other bio-disciplines. It shows how nature has always inspired architects and engineers and cites some emblematic architectural works. An overview of morphological-structural emulations is also given on the basis of more recent architectural examples.
