Making the “Smart Cities” Agenda a Reality: The Role of a Proposed Integrated Model

The future of cities has generated greater concern due to global crises such as climate change and infectious diseases, which have impacted all population groups, especially older adults. Healthy ageing requires sustained functional ability, which is necessary for well-being and productivity in old age. This chapter proposes an integrated model as a tool for rolling out campaigns such as the Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021–2030. Based on person-environment models, three existing models were brought together, resulting in a more holistic model depicting age-friendly contexts. The model requires co-design of policies and cities to meet the needs of older adults in crisis situations.
